Do This Social Media Thing, Now!

Enterprise205b_2 This is a follow up from my post of yesterday. No doubt, some companies will join the conversation their way. Thank you Geek and Poke, for providing some food for thought. Encouraging indeed!

This was a main point at the CATFOA event I attended in Minneapolis last night.

All anyone wants to talk about is conversational/social network marketing. I think it's very easy for the pundits to lament the efforts of larger companies, after all they don't hit back! But honestly, if you ARE one of the larger companies, it only makes sense to wade into the waters slowly. There is much more to lose.

Additionally, the multiple level of bureaucracy in these brand pyramids is high; it's one thing to have people that understand the movement, entirely another to strategize and implement in a completely unique territory. At the very least the cartoon showcases a company that is aware of the goings on.

Don't forget I am inside a large company ;-) I might play pundit here, but I am very much in touch with the reality of corporate America. And in some cases, not all of course, it ain't pretty.

This cartoon is not so far fetched. It's not the bureaucracy as much as the political environment. Remember that companies are empty vessels, it's the people in them that bring them to life. Did you enjoy the event last night?

Yes, it was enjoyable. Thanks for asking.

But what I really get out of most every event/conversation/idea session is that none of us really know where advertising is going. Or marketing. Or business. We know what is happening today, but we don't know where it will go.

And it's a beautiful thing. :-). I love the idea that I'm in a changing environment and take it as a challenge. We hold large amounts of responsibility for the success and failure of our companies.

Take care Valeria.
